Lessons from the Yoga Mat: Gratitude -> Dedication
Even though our Thanksgiving plans had to take an unexpected turn this year, I had an opportunity to return to something I love… Thanksgiving morning yoga. Those of you who know me know you won’t catch me near a Turkey Trot (longer story for another day), but I can’t turn down a chance to get on the mat. A time to move the body, clear the mind, and reset.
During our “flow before the feast” our instructor asked us to think about not only what we are grateful for, but what we are DEDICATED to. This was such a profound prompt for me. It was very similar to a concept I’d heard about looking at where you spend your money. What you pay for is what you value – or what you’re valuing at that time.
When I reflect on what I’m dedicated to, the list is somewhat simple – family and friends, the people I support through my work, and growth. Happily, I found a strong alignment with my core values – balance, connection, contribution, and growth.
Community and impact are incredibly important to me. I thrive on connecting with others and feeling like I’m making a difference. Growth is a big bucket for me. Particularly over the last 7 years I’ve thrown a lot of myself into bettering myself personally and professionally – in health, in parenting, in marriage, in coaching, in life.
The perspective of dedication allowed me to take stock of 2023 and bring more intention to 2024.
What are you dedicated to?
